OPCO hosts a steel cutting ceremony for DB-H804 heavy cargo carrier
On Friday the August 28th, 2009, Oriental Precision & Engineering (“OPCO” hereinafter) performed a steel cutting ceremony for the DB-H804 heavy cargo carrier at its Jinhae Facility 1. The order to construct the cargo carrier was released by Dongbang last June.
Representatives from Dongbang and OPCO were present at the ceremony, and a traditional prayer service and a congratulatory speech were followed by the steel cutting ceremony and a photo session.
Construction of the DB-H804 heavy cargo carrier has a special meaning to OPCO, as the vessel is company’s first self-propelled barge.
A self-propelled barge is a vessel mechanically propelled type of barge designed to carry the cargo on deck, for use in limited coastwise service and capable of transiting interconnecting canals. The vessel is designed so that the stern can easily come alongside the pier, and the hull stays balanced at all times. Also, the vessel is perfect for cargo loading and unloading because the ballast tanks have been flattened for extra transport balance.
The DB-H804 is composed of 100 hull blocks, is estimated to weigh 7,200 tons, and is scheduled to be delivered in September 2010.
